Ricoh GXR Clearout?

I was just perusing the Canadian Henrys.com website and I saw that essentially all their GXR bodies/kits/modules are half price. If anyone is interested, now may be the time to pick one up. I've been trying to convince myself to buy one but compared to the GRD, I prefer the smaller size for street photography.

for the money, one cannot find a better vehicle to achieve high quality digital IQ with rf lenses. period.

I know! but I already have so many cameras, just got a panasonic G3 for $250 at B&H. Ya the GXR M module can probably do better, but then for the additional $400, still gotta pay tuition fees

So it is a product End of Life. I wonder what will Ricoh/Pentax do next? Will they come up with a new platform or just discontinued the GXR Modular line of product.

OTH Pentax has the miniscule Q series mirrorless, not a serious picture making machine though.

Lens correction capability.
No stupid movie button that can be hit accidentally
Better overall UI design except for no auto detection of evf vs LCD

Sony pro
Sony evf is better though.
Sd card write time better
Movies are better

Thanks for the heads-up on this. Just bought a body. I have one with the M-mount for M/ltm lenses+manual focus, one for the A12 50 2.5, and this one will be the cheapest backup body ever (or for the P10 travel-zoom) in a great small-cam system.

I totally agree. The body with the basic "kit" zoom will be a great "take anywhere" camera. The Ricoh GXR system is outstanding and I love my outfit. Ricoh wasn't marketed in Canada for years and now they've pulled out altogether after a brief and half-hearted effort, it seems. I immediately contacted Henry's and ordered a body. The price is almost worth it for the spare battery and charger....TW

In case anyone hasn't seen what the GXR can do with its M-mount, earlier today I uploaded into the Gallery a number of shots with a 50/2 ZM Planar (=75mm) and an 85/1.9 brass Serenar (=128mm), all shot wide open. Granted, Henry's isn't selling the M-mount or EVF, and they aren't cheap, but it's a lot of IQ for the loonies. As Tony says, the P10 kit is a great travel-zoom entry into a sophisticated, photographer-friendly system.

I wonder if they will dish out a new M-mount (mkII) module, and a slightly updated grip (ev. with built in finder..)
or if they will drown the System for good.

If they drop it completely it would be a pity imo, a very brave Idea for Ricoh, and the A12 M Module is probably the best
Legacy lens camera ever made.

I hope there's still place in ricoh/pentax world for such a photographer-centric system.

While my lust for a digital Leica was rapidly cured after shooting an M8 for a few months, I have been stoked about this little Magical Box that is called GXR since I got mine from a fellow forum member 5 months back.

Here's why:

Shot with the Ricoh GXR M-mount, and a modern Voigtländer Heliar 2.0/50mm nickel LTM lens.

Personally, I find detail rendering in this and other images in my Flickr stream shockingly good!

Since the GXR can deliver the goods up to 2500 ISO, I recently sold my Summiluxes 35mm and 50mm, my Super-angulon 3.4/21mm and the Leica M2. No use in keeping them since I own two other 35 and 50 lenses that open up to 2.0.


Terrific little camera with the M-mount and VF-2 attached, get one while you can!

I would add that the all-magnesium, very solid GXR feels very different in the hands--better, I think, but definitely different. Its right-hand grip is very ergonomic, too, if like me you are right-handed.

They have the m mount: http://www.henrys.com/70728-RICOH-GXR-M-MOUNT-A12.aspx and it's also half off. Looks like the body is out of stock online but the m mount is still in stock at a great price. If they had the EVF in stock it would have probably been half off too. And thankfully they didn't as I probably would have bought the set!
