Hello all,

I did a quick search to find some information on this but couldn't find anything but this excellent informative post on the R1s. However it's more of a general information on the camera.

I have a very specific question and that is does your Ricoh R1 or R1s shutton button feel like mush?

I compared it to the GR1s (yes another league i know but...) and it felt much better, with a more clearer half shutter press and nice clicky sound when i depress the button.

On the R1s its loose and feels horrible. I have no tactile feedback from the shutter button and no clicky sound.

I was hoping it would be a easy fix. For example, just opening the top of the camera and adjusting the button's rubber nub or something.

Does anybody have information on how to do this?

I looked up on how to remove the top off of a GR1s but after looking inside the R1s it looks like its constructed differently with screws being in different places.

So to sum up, how can i open the top of this camera to get at the shutter button on the R1s?

just a quick update. i did end up finding a solution to opening up the cover. it was actually super easy. i would highly recommend this procedure for those wanting to clean up their viewfinders as this gives you direct access to it from the front of the camera.

all you need to do is remove 4 screws in total to get the front panel to come off of the camera. the front slips off quite easily after you remove all 4 screws.

(feel free to change up the order of it, i just did it in this way.)

(1) remove the (long) screw at the lower left hand corner of the camera body inside the film compartment.

(2) the next one is at the battery compartment

There is one of the battery compartment right at the hinge on the upper left hand side. The second one is at the battery tab area (you can see the black screw head in the picture on the lower right side). The last one is on the silver side on the outside where the battery won't cover it (directly below the date stamp window).

et voila.

i discovered that the horrible shutter button feeling is like that by default. 😱 the plastic part and the design of the thing is such in a way that it feels horrible straight from the factory. i guess i can't complain.

anyways this is the way i did it. i guess the only good thing is that you can clean the viewfinder window if it gets dusty or dirty easily by opening up the front aluminum casing.
