Surprising no one else has commented on this. I just heard it last night on my way home. There was much contraversy over his wife's reports of spousal abuse, but he and they did put out some good music. One thing I didn't know but heard on the radio last night was that he was credited with putting out the first rock and roll song in 1951.

This always left a very bad taste in my mouth, so I must admit I was not really a fan of his.

If you read the various music groups on Usenet and the web, you will find countless tunes attributed as the "first R&R" depending on who you ask and who they happen to like.

I was travelling and missed hearing this on NPR, but my wife tells me the headline in the New York Post was "Ike 'Beats' Tina to Death" - I mean, really....

Well, it is funny in a twisted sort of way, but definately in bad taste.

I agree with you, Al (aka mr. iron horse). It's funny AND in bad taste. Just because it isn't "Journalism" doesn't mean it can't be clever.

No one is perfect, and there are two sides to every story of a bad marriage as anyone who's been married will tell you. Ike Turner was an outstanding Rock and Roll Pioneer.

Sell those papers! That's in such bad taste... I mean, the man's met his maker, and had to answer for himself... so why speak ill of the dead? Ike knew what he did, as did the people who witnessed it... firsthand or otherwise. The media truly disgusts me some days.
