I wonder who the portraitist was. I’ve always liked this photograph. it is claimed his respiratory handicap was the driving element behind developing the Leica. Maybe. I reckon he’d have done it with good lungs and one tough hike. He was in just the right place, already with a lot of the necessary technical knowledge and mechanical engineering manufacturing skills available. The most extraordinary thing is his serial documentation of the development of the 35mm camera from its earliest conception. Hard to think of another transformative engineered product with a similar provenance.
