RIP Tom A

I met with Tom twice and both times parted feeling that I'd never met such an authentically kind and generous human being.

Just a little too sad to respond to this news yesterday...

Stephen opened my eyes to Tom years ago with the "Uncollectibles" article on CameraQuest. Blew me away! A real-life rangefinder Mad Scientist (meant in an awesome way)! So creative, so obviously smart -- the kind of person I wish I had met years ago.

Only conversed a couple of times about prints and the IXMOO lore but I had a list of other things I wanted to ask...time is short.

Rest in Peace. Condolences to his loved ones.

Just came in from getting some snow shots with a Rapidwinder-equipped M, complete with soft release and Rapidgrip, and read the news. Tom A did as much as any one individual to promote rangefinder cameras and shooting style. That would be enough to keep his memory alive, but it doesn't tell the whole story. He was always approachable, even if the question was less than intelligent, and he never made anyone feel dumb for asking such a question. A gentleman of the first order. We will all miss him. Condolences to his family and his friends throughout the world. We have lost an exceptional person.

That's such shocking news. I didn't know him but always was interested in what he said about all kinds of things. I agree that he was always the perfect gentleman and I was so impressed with all his knowledge and accomplishments. For certain he will be missed by so many. God speed Tom.

Terrible news, terrible loss for Tuulikki and RFF too. Photography (and especially film photography) has lost a generous and kind man.

Very sad to hear of Tom's passing. He was a wonderful guy and a treasure trove of knowledge. My thoughts are with his lovely wife and all those who called him "friend".

Here was Tom and his wife a few years back when we were out to dinner in San Francisco. He got a kick out of my Cron 50 collapsible mounted on a Ricoh GXR.

While I can't say I know Tom that well, I have read his work and I know what a huge loss this is for the photographic community as a whole.

In this Internet age, Tom was that Internet/online friend you felt so fortunate to make. He was knowledgeable and wise and so giving of his time. Like so many others, he helped me choose an M2 and we exchanged emails on lens choices. He would always argue for Voigtlander lenses over their older counterparts, be they Leica or Canon ltm and he would tell you why. He have me some great processing advice at one point. I so appreciated that. Lastly, he regularly liked or commented on my photos on flickr, quite recently, in fact. It always brightened my day when he would leave a comment. Tom will really be missed. My condolences for everyone's loss.

At the moment, there are no words to express my utter shock and disbelief, in learning of Tom's passing.
Likewise, there seems a certain irony in learning of Tom's death through the very forum Tom used to share his passion for life.

Tom, you will sadly missed. I only met you a couple of times at Cafe Zen on my rare trips over from the UK. But you were such a kind, generous and happy soul. We spoke about your illness then and how you had continued to smile through it all. Every time, I pick up my M2 or M6TTL, the Rapidwinders will remind me of you. Thank you for all you have given to so many across the world. Thinking of Tuulikki, family and friends. RIP
