this unfortunate fellow came to rest in someone's driveway on US 202 through Morristown, NJ.

This damaged statuary was about 200 feet from the dead deer / bicyclist combo above. Both shot while on a bike ride myself. The guy passing the deer was probably wondering why I chose to stop there. Now he knows.
 
Paul, as I said, I'm no herpetologist, but your snake (apologies to Monty Python) appears to be quite dead. Probably died hungry judging from your timing.


I think you're right, Rob. Rat snake of some kind is my second guess.
Speaking of snakes, can you say, "So close, yet so far?"

I have to admit that my wife suggested I move the flattened snake closer to the dune mouse. They were about 5 feet apart when we saw them, flat as flitters ...
 
I don't touch dead stuff, including discarded gloves that I find on the road. I shot it as I find it. In this instance, the glove and the bird happened to be in the same spot.
