The picture looks like a photo shopped M7? All that's missing is the 'M7' and the rewind lever..

Meh, couldn't bother to read it. Sorry.
Then you missed this:

^ Oh, I know all about his Leica Man(TM)...![]()
He links to the file you host in the article.
KR said:More Information: here is the late 2009 M-System Brochure purportedly published by Leica on their site, and promptly taken down and then illegally reposted by someone else. Of course if this is all fake and all Leica does on 9/9/9 is introduce a point-and-shoot like the X1, then ignore all this.
It's illegal that you host the file. So he puts up a link on his site. Makes perfect sense.

Hits are hits... but has anyone donated money to KR yet?
But every $ is for his "growing family" so a good cause. I wonder what the break point is before he has enough $ to breed again?

It's a typical Ken Rockwell review. I love it. I am not sure about the childish remark about washing your hands, but if that's your level of existence, so be it. Each to his own. Ken has a very popular web site on photography.

What level of existence involves acknowledging that the KR site has a certain reputation around here for being unclean, unhygienic, the spreader of wild talk and ego-laden opinion? I realise he has a website and I understand it is popular. And I read all his post via RSS, often visit the site, and find his opinions entertaining.
In other news, the M7-based mock-up is evident if you look about a fifth of the way down his page for the Leica 18mm:

Silly me! Silly Ken! Silly us!

hilarious article, read it just for laughs.
My favorite blurb:
"The technical image quality from the M9 should easily outdo anything from Nikon and Canon because of the supremacy of LEICA lenses. Nikon and Canon each make some good lenses, but every LEICA lens is superb. Thus the images from the M9 should easily out-resolve images from Canon or Nikon. We'll see."
I love his deductive logic here. High science!

This one is awesome too:
"I don't see any automatic optimization of highlights and shadows in the LEICA M9, unlike most modern Oriental cameras. The Leica photographer is always the master of his own light; he has no need for the automatic shadow-brightening (and noise-raising) tricks of lesser cameras."

but when I realized this whole article was a sarcastic joke on Ken's part was when I read this:
"When you shoot the LEICA, you know your photos are perfect. The Leica man never wastes his shooting time looking back at what he just shot; his eyes are always looking for his next great photo. The Leica man is part of the action, not a huddled drone off in the corner."
and then this in the "Quality" section of his review:
"MADE IN GERMANY."

Apparently 80% of you didn't even read his review & for those of you who did are probably po'd because he told you the truth about dumping the M8.2 "NOW" because 'real' Leica shooters don't shoot half frame.
Gotta love that! Ken also forewarned you to hurry out & buy a 135mm lens because up til now you couldn't use one with the m8. Prices are sure to skyrocket. Sounds like a good review of the brochure to me. I think I would actually wait til 9-10 to dump the M8

Somewhere on his site Rockwell says he takes the M7 on his shoots because he's tired of lugging his DSLR stuff around (he uses it in his studio), and that you get a very well built camera when you buy a Leica but not better pictures or even better reliability. Those sound like very reasonable stances to me. He also carries around a Canon p&s.
It's hard for me to tell if some of the Leicaman histrionics in that piece are totally tongue in cheek or not. However, there exists some finite number of people who can't take a good photo to save their skin who will own M9's net week.

And a good thing, because it's one of their cameras I'll buy in three years.

Very true. A lot of people on rangefinder.com wet their pants at the mention of Ken Rockwell's name but the fact is that spouts a lot less BS than a lot of the people who post on photography websites and he is decidedly not 'in the pocket' of any of the camera manufacturers, unlike the appalling consumer photographic press (on both sides of the Atlantic and probably globally too). It is perfectly clear from his review that he hasn't had his hands on a Leica M9 yet and is just reviewing the leaked spec: why is this even being discussed?

The response to Ken Rockwell reminds me of an elementry school yard. One bully pushes the kid and all the other wannabe tough guys join in. Most of them don't even know why. The truth is KR's photo's are as good if not better than 90+ % of the posters to this forum his writing skills gets the point across and he's making more money with photography than most eveyone on the forum and having fun at it and a good laugh at his idiot critics. Really I'll bet Ken could give a s**t about the petty little barbs from the people who just love to read what he has to say. Like the writing over the urnal, says "don't look up here, the jokes in your hand."

He really is a terrible, terrible writer. And that is definitely an M7.
It is not just a terrible writer, he often write things which are plain silly or false.
Take this from a review of Zeiss lenses:
"It feels exactly like a third-party manual focus lens from the 1970s, and for good reason."
And of course he knows why because in the same article you can read:
"This lens is not made in Germany and it is not made in a Zeiss factory. It is made in Japan by Cosina, the same company that made the cheap FM-10 for Nikon and many other inexpensive lenses and cameras for third-party makers for many decades."
and
"Cosina, who makes this lens, made many of the third-party lenses of the 1970s. This Zeiss branded lens even has the same focus ring finish as my very first ever third-party lens. I got a Vivitar 200mm f/3.5 T-mount lens for Christmas in 1973."
Of course just to be sure we understand in the specifications instead of the name he writes:
"Zeiss calls this the Zeiss Planar T* f/1,4 50 mm ZF"
No surprise he put a photoshopped picture of an M7 in a M9 review and no surprise he thinks it might be good because it is "Made in Germany"... A bit more surprising is the high traffic of his web-site...
