Rollei B 35

I picked up a Rollei B 35 camera today and would like to put either a UV or 1 A filter on it. When I measured the lens threads it measured 19MM - that doesn't sound correct to me. I have other Rollei 35s and I thought the filters were a bit larger. Does 19MM sound right to you?

It's actually a 24 mm thread for the Triotar lens. (The Sonnar lens on the 35S has a 30.5 mm filter thread.)

The B35 is a lovely little camera and it's a much sharper lens than you might expect for e 3-element design. Well I think so...

Thank you Mark. You know, I would think that Carl Zeiss wouldn't put his name on a piece of junk! I have a like new Kodak camera from the 50s and the lens isn't much to brag about, but it takes extremely sharp and contrasty colored pics. I say this because I've seen several negative comments regarding the Triotar lens - if you wanted Leica lens results, buy a Leica camera.

The only problem I do find with the B35 is that when I've set the shutter speed I want to use on the light meter dial on the top of the camera, there's a 50:50 chance that it tricks me into believing I've actually set the speed on the shutter itself. My fault entirely though, not the camera's!

I've had perfectly sharp pictures from a 3-element Meyer Domiplan too, although given the usual comments you read about that lens, that can't possibly be true...

Well, I just located a Fuji 100 12EXP roll of film in my frig that I put into the B 35 and I'll see what the results are. The film unfortunately is dated 2010, so I'm not to sure of what the color results will be, but if necessary I'll change them to B&W if the colors are bad. That will still tell me something about the quality of the Triotar lens.

Oh yes, I checked the meter reading on the B 35 with an older hand held meter and the reading were very close, perhaps the B 35 may have been 1/2 stop off, but that's OK as much depends on how you're measuring the incoming light. Anyway, I think this roll I'm shooting will tell me what I want to know.

I've found a 24MM Rollei H1 filter made in Germany for my Rollei B 35 camera, but I'm not sure what a H1 filter is, or what it does. Can someone out there explain what a H1 filter is used for?

I agree with Mark on the quality of the Triotar lenses. They're my favorites on the Rolleicord TLR cameras. Very sharp in the center, and wonderful for portraits. If you want a sharp lens corner to corner, the more expensive lenses w/ more elements are for you, but I always preferred the IQ of the Triotars.

Thank you Petronius for the information about the H1 filter. It sounds like it's a UV filter in disguise! I'll keep watching how the bidding goes and see if I want to get in on it or not! I'm about half way through my 12 exposure roll in my B 35 so I hope to shoot it up ASAP.

Here are a couple of images taken on my Rollei B 35 camera. I've been fooling with these for over an hour and I'm hopeful they will download OK. If they do, I have more to show.

The first image is the plane I flew in last Saturday. I'm not sure what the second one is but it looks like Israeli marking toward the rear section. It looks as though I 've been able to download them OK, but I need to make them a bit larger. I'll try a few more.
