First roll of Rollei Retro 100 in Rodinal 1:50. In fact my first roll of ISO 100 film =D
Quite pleased with the film. What do you think?
Planning to try Acros next and then perhaps Ilford FP4+

Nice tone... For 35mm I use APX100 with Rodinal 1+50 too, and now I am thinking of deciding which ISO 100 film (for availability) to choose for 120 in Rodinal... I'm looking for comments on Acros and TMX, and I would prefer the one that's going to be available for longer...

Cheers,

Juan

Nice tonality and sharpness. Retro 100 is my favourite film.

I often wonder why so many insist on shooting ISO 400 film with their Leicas even in daylight. In normal daylight when shooting ISO 400 you tend to use 1/250s or 1/500s and f/16 or f/11. You are already pushing it as Leica only can do 1/1000s.

ISO 100 or even ISO 50 film is more sensible choice for daylight shooting with a rangefinder IMO.

I think the same... With 400 on sunny days, even using an ND8 it's hard to isolate subjects...

there are other ways of taking interesting pictures and isolating a subject than just the wide-open/narrow DOF one... you can totally use 1600asa and still take a good picture in daylight. also, tri-x at 400 in daylight is a thing of absolute beauty.

as for the film: acros yay, fp4 hmm nay.

but that's just me 😀

I have to say that i am liking the tonality of this combination too....don't know if it is the film or just ISO100 in general.
Have only been shooting ISO 400 since i started film and developing.

It looks pretty nice, doesn't it? I like it more than I thought I would. You did a great job w/ the developing.

The only reason I shoot 400 ISO film in a Leica is that's what Tri-X is. Works good at 200 too, and w/ a yellow filter you pick up another stop. My favorite film by far. With my R glass the problem isn't there. My Leicaflex SL will shoot at 1/2000, and the Nikon N6006 w/ Leitax R adapter will go to 1/4000. Helps a lot in the bright desert sun where I'm at.

I'm willing to bet you'll like the FP4 a lot, but by all means try the Tri-X. That film has really beautiful blacks.

If you follow Barry Thornton's advice you'd shoot TriX at 160 in bright daylight and under-develop the film 🙂

The old Agfa APX emulsions are being re-coated and re-released, though the process was delayed due to the amount of the original product in the supply-chain. Adox and Fotoimpex have got it organised apparently. They are the people who have produced the new "Agfa" papers of course, so they have a good track record.

I'm used to delta both 100/400 depending on light situation. But I'll give a try to the rollei retro, probably an interesting alternative.

Agreed, RR 100 (= APX 100) is a cool film in Rodinal 1:50:

In Rodinal 1:100 it's my currently preferred combo 🙂

Nice photos. Is that really the same film as APX100, I mean do you get that APX100 luminous carved out of metal look in the upper mids?
