Rolleiflex 2.8something ?'s

A friend of mine at a local Ritz wants to sell me his Rolleiflex. He didn't remember the specific model but it's a 2.8 Planar with a selenium meter. Anyone know the model? Does it have a quick-release hood or screw on?

Regardless of model, he says it in great condition, CLA'd a year or so ago, and the best part is he's only asking $200 for it 🙂 I would rather not spend the money right now but that's hard to pass up. I'll be taking a look at it on Wed. so I'll let you all know if I get it.

Sounds like the Rolleiflex 2.8F (60's to 70's model I believe). Others will correct me if wrong. The price you mention is irresistable, at least in so far as prices go here in the UK.

yea you can probably double that and put a £ sign where the $ one is (without any currency conversion) and you're close to the price for a 2.8 in excellent CLA'd condition.

The 2.8 with a meter is the F model. If you don't want it I'll buy it.

If I recall, all the 2.8's will use a bay III hood.

That's a fantastic price - even if you have to get it serviced. I payed nearly 1k for mine without a meter.

Dates of production: 1960-1981. Exact dates for serial numbers can be found on net with searching.

That is a fantastic price for a camera with a recent CLA, I would snap it up. The hood is a bayonet fitting as are the filters. I have a 2.8E2 (no meter) and it gets as much, if not more, use than my rangefinder.

Well thanks for all the help everyone. I will almost certainly buy the camera, just have to see it first.

I have a 124 G already and I love it, but I have been drooling over a 2.8 Planar for YEARS. I can cover over half the cost with the Yashica. At this price I don't see how I could even justify passing it up. If for some insane reason I don't want it I can sell it for a decent profit.

I would feel a bit strange. If it's in reasonably condition, the camera is worth much more than that.
But depends, of course. Your friend might not need the camera nor the extra cash, dunno.In that case, you lucky *******!🙂

The Rolleiflex 2.8E (fixed wlf) and 2.8 E2/E3 models (removeable wlf) were also available with a meter (uncoupled). Whatever model it's a good price...

I borrowed one for a week from a camera store I used to work for. I have been totally hooked since but I got a Leica and a 4x5 in the mean time and have not been able to justify the Rollei. At this price I can't justify NOT getting it 🙂

How to justify a Rollei? Well, it's a beautiful camera (true design, not a vaguely rounded plastic crap, such as an EOS 1Ds Mk2,45 and a half😉 and it produces (nearly) the same photos as a 4x5, but with the big advantages of being able to have it in a bag and take 12 photos at a time!

I don't actually have to justify it 🙂 If the shutter works I'm buying it! Even if it doesn't I probably would for that price.
