The October issue of Vanity Fair has a long article and photo spread on Roman Polanski. A double page spread shows him shooting with a screwmount Leica!
There is no mention of the camera in the lengthy and somewhat tiresome story. It looks like he is really using the Leica but who knows?

I suspect it's a reference to the film Roman Holiday, though I can't recall (and google doesn't seem to either) the camera/s used by Gregory Peck's photographer buddy.

He has history of using a Leica in his own movies:

Interesting point on the reflections I have seen referenced elsewhere but this is the only one with an illustration AFAIK

Polanski graduated from the film school in Lodz. In these times, photography was surely an obligatory subject, and you had to learn the craft. Evidently, some passion has remained intact.

Now discard all your German made cameras because of Hitler, American makes because of Hiroshima and Japanese because of Pearl Harbour. And Russian because of Stalin and NKVD. Not to mention British, Chinese cameras etc. Photographers can't be passive watchers!

And we are left with Swedish (they too have something dark in the history and present)... All mankind is evil to someone, we've had several wars in this country in past 100y (as far away as Turkey and Japan, we have the memorial statues still), sometimes its better to go on. Some countries try to keep figthting, like US, some dont. Now discard all your German made cameras because of Hitler, American makes because of Hiroshima and Japanese because of Pearl Harbour. Yes, of course. I was just trying to be funny. Anyways, I was born Finland so I don't consider myself Swedish.
But I do own a Hasselblad.

Did he use Leicas to take pictures of the young girl he raped? Why are we discussing this disgusting pervert anyway?
