Well, I hope this is allowed by the RFF mods (Gods?). I think it's a cool idea.

Instead of starting a new thread every time I have photos to post, I'm going to just post them here in a running thread. It should serve double-duty as a sample image gallery for prospective GF1 buyers. That's how I'll justify having it here... 😀

I should mention that every posted photo is open for comments, criticisms, etc. They are always welcome!

The first few posts will be from a trip my fiance and I just got back from on Friday. We met her brother and sister-in-law in Vegas for the weekend before spending 5 nights at their house in La Quinta. Needless to say, the GF1 was out a LOT.

The first few are just the shots I got done first. They had just gotten a second boxer a little while back, and I couldn't help but snap some puppy shots. Such an energetic (that's the nice word) dog!

Panasonic 20mm for all of them.

Without wasting any time, here is post #2 with an entirely different subject matter!

When out in the valley, we were only a 20 minute drive from Palm Springs and decided to visit the P.S. Air Museum. Awesome place with tons of regularly-flown WWII era craft, a B-17 with its own hangar, a few stationary fighter jets out front, and a few random pieces sitting outside.

This set is of one of those random aircraft...a Sikorsky H-34 Vietnam-era helicopter. I don't have a lot to say about it since I don't have much background in aircraft at all, but it was outside in their gravel overflow lot just begging to be photographed.

Again, Panasonic 20mm for all.

Was the vignetting added in post or is that due to the lens?

Added in post. I've noticed very little straight from the camera, probably since the light falloff is supposedly corrected in-camera, same as distortion.

I think it is cool to open threads dedicated on a specific lens or camera to get samples shots, but I think it should not be dedicated to a member's work only and used as a running thread to showcase one's pictures. Otherwise, we would be soon overflowed by hundred threads like that. 😉

Not sure you are aware, but there is a gallery where you can post your pictures and add the camera used in a field. Therefore people looking for GF1 shots will be able to identify them easily.

With all due respect to you the photographer, I think I'll keep my film cameras. The blue/ green cast is not at all attractive on the helo pics. I prefer black/ white/ gray.

Just as a tip, it probably isn't the best way to introduce yourself w/ smart ass, immature comments about the mods who do a fine service here.

Nobody is forcing you to switch...shoot what you enjoy. 😀 The color cast in the heli shots is a result of PP though if that's what you're referring to.

If Post-processing is a major part of the final look, as here, it seems slightly pointless posting without providing details.

I find the effect you're aiming for interesting, rather like bleached out film or faded posters with light-fugitive red dye, but I think the vignetting would be more powerful, if it were more subtle.

Thanks Paul. I understand what you're saying...not everything I post will be as heavily processed as what's above, and I'm going to go back and look at the vignetting to see if my eye agrees with what you posted.

I'll also try to remember to provide some details about my processing when I feel it's needed.

Here's a round of photos from Las Vegas two weeks ago. I'm a 23 year-old college student in Indiana, so this was my first time in Vegas. Such an amazing city...if you havn't been there, there is nothing I can try to compare it to. We stayed at the brand new Aria hotel and casino in the CityCenter complex...just amazing.

I wasn't there for photography, but there are some shots worth posting anyways. Just keep in mind that these are quick snaps. If I still had a 5D and not the GF1, I wouldn't have bothered taking a camera. That's why I love this thing!

More from our trip to Vegas. Our flight out turned out to be a mess...We were delayed in Indianapolis by to a storm in Atlanta, our layover, and not able to find open seats on other flights, so eventually we were comped a taxi ride to Cincinnati by Delta. After a 6 hour stay in Cincy International, and a $70 bar tab, we were finally on a jet to Vegas. Delta did a good job of making right for our troubles, getting us a taxi out to Cincy, $40 in food vouchers, a first class upgrade, and 4 free drink tickets for the flights. They didn't even charge us for checked luggage....Awesome.

Again, Panasonic 20mm. I finally found my Minolta MD to M4/3 adapter in the mail, so I'll be posting some shots from new glass in the near future!

Processing on these is pretty limited...Just the basic levels, conversions, some grain, wash, rinse, repeat!

Grain on some of the BWs comes from Photoshop, although the GF1 produces a pretty nice grain pattern itself. Yes, the shot in Caeser was with the 20mm...really tells you how big that place is.

Holy wow that's a big space... Keep the pics coming to fuel my fire. As soon as the new viewfinder(?) is announced, I'm pulling the trigger on one of these.

(No, I don't know anything about the new VF. Only that the old one doesn't seem to be available at all. Only old stock remains.)
