Hi! Am currently on round the world trip, and though of sharing some photos along the way. I've gone through Egypt then Southern Africa (Nairobi to Cape Town) past few months, next am about to fly to Kathmandu Nepal.
Been using M8 for photos (+ iPhone Hipstamatic for casual/hip snaps). In camera bag: M8 in Zhou case with ZM 28/2.8 attached. CV Heliars 15/4.5 and 75/2.5. Two batteries and memory cards + some other accessories. M8 has been doing ok on dusty and jumpy train & bus trips across Africa, never missed a shot. Sensor gets dusty pretty easy (and I haven't changed the lenses in sand storm!), and needs cleaning. Two batteries feels absolute minimum, did 6 day climb trip to Kilimanjaro and second battery was half full when it ended. Been shooting also some street with M8 and 28. Occasionally having 35 instead of 28 would have suited my preferences better. Speedier lens would also be nice, although M is steady in slow speeds. As am also going to Tokyo, perhaps am having Nokton 35/1.4 in my camera bag when leaving
So, any experiences or comments, or recommendations where to stop by to snap a photo or two, or for a cup of coffee ? Remaining places are these: Kathmandu, Tokyo, Los Angeles to New York by bus/train, Santiago to Sao Paulo by bus/train.

Some very good night scenes of the Muizz street of Cairo! I have never been to Cairo, but these scenes are very typical of the cities of the Middle East and North Africa. I have been to Tanger and other cities in Marocco several times: It looks the same.
An important part of the atmosfare is the music that roars out of loudspeakers. From noisy footballmatches to romatic songs of Umm Kulthum. Anyone who tried to find 'Radio Luxemburg' in the 60' will remember her voice. Not coming from Radio Luxemburg, but Radio Cairo on the Medium wave, which were close by on the frequency scale. She is still very popular.

Let me know when you're in town. I might be able to help faciltate that

In Tokyo: Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Ikebukuro, and Ueno are all major areas with the typical bright lights and lots of people, restaurants, bars etc. Asakusa for older Tokyo.
Around Tokyo: Kamakura to the south west (1 hour by train), and Nikko to the north west (3 hours by train).
Have a great trip!

Thanks for the comments! Olsen, Cairo really is worth a visit, even with similar experiences from Marocco. Egypt is interesting mix of thousands year old culture combined with later Arabic influence. Old Cairo downtown is very active, while same time rich with history and interesting places to see.
Jon, thanks for the recommendations and any help will definately be appreciated
Oftheherd, took a good while for me to make this jump too. Moneywise, backpacker places and CouchSurfing are my "tricks" to keep the budget within limits. Good way to meet with locals too.

I like the content of the night pictures but don't like the typical m8-high-iso-look and the weird artificial light colors. Perhaps you just didn't have the time to work on the pictures.
Nice trip. I'm pretty envious.
thanks! there was no noise reduction, but I applied now some in ACR.

Hey Jarno, hope you're enjoying your travels in the USA! I didn't realise you also visited Kure while you were here. Not many tourists make it that far. Here's a bit of trivia for you - the gunsight rangefinder used on the Yamato was manufactured by Nippon Kogaku (i.e. Nikon) at the Ohi Factory about 3-4 minutes walk from JR Nishi-Oi Station (that name should ring a bell
