RTS II & Sigma 21-35 lens

I picked up a cheap Sigma 21-35 in C/Y mount but when I mount it on my RTS II the camera shows f2 at the widest aperture and not the f3.5 that is on the lens.

I realize this may just be "how it is" and I should stick to manual exposure (I generally prefer the AE) but I thought I'd ask just in case I'm doing something wrong here.

I don't know anything about the RTS II, but it may not be able to show f/3.5. Have you checked the user's manual?

I sure envy you the lens. Sigma never seemed to get the credit I thought is deserved for its lens line. I used to have a 600mm cat and absolutely loved it. I now have a 200mm and macro that is really fun to use.

This is a not-so-rare problem that occurs on C/Y lenses and Contax cameras. I've encountered a similar problem on my C/Y Zeiss 28mm F/2.8 The mechanical linkage communicating the aperture value to the camera is off. If your other C/Y lenses have no such issue on your RTS II, most likely the lens is to blame.

It can be fixed. But it is also not a big deal. This will affect the aperture-priory mode because the metering will be off. But for manual operation and metering there won't be any problem.

I know, it's like they were the red headed step-child. I still have a 135mm lens in 42 screw-mount I bought for my long-defunct Zenit EM. A really nice lens and so affordable.

Thanks. As the Planar 1.7 has no problems I'll just use my meter or sunny 16 with this Sigma lens.
