Shot two rolls of EFKE KB25 today and dropped them at Walgreens 1HR for development.

Got a call 20 minutes later I got a call from them saying the first roll came out blank. Not blank like no shots on it. Blank. Like, blank.

they said they wouldn't do the second roll unless I said Go. I said no.

The whole roll was wiped blank. Like, blank. Totally clear with a pink hue to it. Totally see through, blank.

Any ideas what happened? Anyone had this happen to them?

I'm saving the next roll till I get my developing equipment back and I'll do it myself.

Did they develop the film inhouse as a C-41 film by mistake? They may have thought it is a C-41 B&W film. If the film was mailed out as a trye B&W film, then this is another issue.

They did it in-house. The girl told me they have done B&W before. I made sure she knew it was B&W when I dropped it off and she was good with it.

No Walmart handles B&W inhouse. The girl messed up.
To many people, B&W film is a rare thing, and they do not know of C-41 B&W and silver based B&Wfilm.

Got C41 color processing. Sorry.

Buy some tanks, chems, clock, thermometer, changing bag, a clean place & some free time. Only way to avoid this.

It generally takes more than 20mins to prep and dev B&W, it was C41 processed.
Moral: Dont use 1hr labs, use a good pro lab.

The girl was honest. She just didn't know that the Efke 25 wasn't a C-41 process film such as Kodak BW400CN or Ilford's XP-2. Chock it all up to learning!😀 You will make mistakes!

"No Walmart handles B&W inhouse."

That can not be true. I had some Fuji SS B&W film developed at WalMart back in April and they did just fine.

The girl said she has done Black and White before, so maybe it was the Kodak BW400CN.

Either way, yes, I'll wait for my stuff to get here and do the rest of the developing myself. (it's shipping over from Germany so it's all on a boat right now.)
Thanks

Well, I once mixed up something myself - thought I had a film taken with nice pictueres and changed it, put in another roll. Whats to say - one came out blank and one had 36 weird double exposures......

Progress. Some Walmarts don't know they can do C-41 b/w. Or that they can send out slides.

Sorry for your lost photos.

Well the good news is... you got one more roll. Get a daylight tank, developer, stop and fixer and you are on your way, if you can find a dark room or buy a film bag (Adorama small bag is $13).

"Can you go back and ask what she did?"

I did. She just said she developed it. Guess that C-41 explanation is on the nose.

Oh well. And yes, I do have the one more roll, it's just a shame. I'm hoping she messed up the second roll because the first had all the good pictures on it.

Oh, well. Thanks for all the info. No more 1-hr photo shops!

Apparently not the other way around...

The BLIX will dissolve all silver in the negatives with as result: Really blank negatives. 😱

There are almost no companies who can do a good B&W development.
And if they can do it's only a simple high compensating B&W developer which fits 60% of all B&W films maximum.

A good B&W lab can "match" B&W film and developer and must be able to have a lot of experience in B&W film development.

It is indeed a pity to loose a whole roll.

Whatever was the reason - it got you on the right way - BW is out to be developed by your self.

Good luck with the next roll - let us know the results.

Pirate Bro, how's it going? Looks like you are back in the states... Too bad about that roll of film with all the good pic on it:bang:

Hope all is well.

Thanks gnuyork. Yep, back in the states. Only another week or two until my stuff should be here and I can start developing my own again, then I'll get that second roll done and post some pics! With Thanksgiving this week, I should have (we all should have) some more shots to post but I think I'll be doing most of the Turkey stuff on digital so the family members can have copies on their computers easily and fast, may snap a few on film.
