Rumors about the Epson R-D2?

Any news about the R-D2?

Believe me, if there had been ANY substantial rumours, we would have picked it up already and it would have been the main topic of about 50% of the threads on the rff front page for weeks on end. Not counting all the threads bashing the M8 or the R-D1(s). :p

[SIZE=-1]Isao Edatsune, the Epson employee who conceived and pushed through the Epson R-D1, is no longer involved in the same division or with the camera.

Add to it the fact that the camera sold in miniscule numbers (for Epson), and that it was a financial loss with a huge amount of returns and exchanges.

You will NEVER see an R-D2.

Yes, it was a financial loss buut it was there marketing strategy who killed themselves ! No advetising, no tech support ! Minuscul numbers have been the logic consequence ! Selling the RD-1 (in that price range) only because was the only DRF camera in the market ? A dream ! DSLR are more popular and look how much are push by Canon, Nikon, Pentax etc on photo magazines. In italy we never saw one page of advertising ! We never knew if any laboratory for tech assistance etc! The idea was wonderfull, the technology (in my opinion) acceptable but....

Yes, absolutely, without a doubt I am certain that there will indeed be a successor to the R-D1!

It just won't be an Epson. Thankfully!!!

Regardless how anyone may feel about the Leica M8, all indications are that it is a notable success for Leica and I myself am looking forward to getting one very soon. When Epson is completely out of the picture, I am sure someone will team up with Cosina Voigtlander to put a new digital sensor into an updated Bessa body. It's a no-brainer.

And I'm not referring to the proposed digital Zeiss Ikon. That's a whole different story! I do hope that sees the light of day, too.

I'm talking about a company that saw how Epson stupidly handled a potential success and are convinced they could do better. Since y'all love to speculate wildly and hopefully start baseless rumors, who do you think would be a likely candidate? I'll start things off with my predictions: even though I'd prefer it to be a photo-related company like Fuji or PhaseOne, I think that just to spite Epson it will be

the Hewlett Packard R-D2.

Ladies and gentlemen, Introducing the Kodak Digital Retina 4SM!!! ... an M-mount rangefinder, with an available adapter to allow previous Retina users to use their Retina lenses with the newest Kodak full-frame, high dynamic range sensor with flawless Tri-X mode.

Finally one statement that is clear enough. But many RFF'ers are still daydreaming. IF the R-D1 marketing would have... IF a new sensor could... IF Epson could raise QC ...IF IF IF...

Take your R-D1(s) and run. You'll never see another.

Ok, maybe in 20 years time Epson will have another go at a DRF, but in the meantime...
