RFF already welcomed Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii and his photography
(or I would say his photoethnographic mission) [1][2],
but now I strongly suggest you to watch the documentary made after this story [Russia in Bloom / Tsvet Natsii].
For sure every Russian/Photographic/Nostalgic lover will appreciate this time machine.

The film leaves a bitter aftertaste. Knowing the reality of modern Russia, being a product of Soviet and Post-Soviet education and having a sense of where this country is heading just blows my mind, takes the heart out and sticks a sword up my gut.

This is incredible how Proskudin-Gorskii not only mastered the art of color photography in black and white era, but also managed to capture the mode of life in different parts of Russia. Even more so, how Leonid Parfenov's documentary pushed through to channel 1. Amazing!
