I did a search but thought we could get more info with a new thread...

Is anyone using any Russian screw-mount lens with the RD-1? If so, which lens and what kind of results are you getting?

Thanks!

Hi!

I have a Jupiter 9 85/2 that misfocus. As far as I read, that's unfortunately normal and they may have to be recollimated to work properly with the R-D1.

When correctly focused, it's ok as a "portrait" lens: low contrast overall, real resolution only after f5.6 (and even then, below my 1950's Elmar f4...).

But, for the price... :)

The Industar 61-LD I have works well (though I havent checked it on close focus accuracy), but I'd take care of the Industar-22 - it could touch the shutter when collapsed in at infinity position.

I have three of the soviet lenses, two J8's (one black, one 'white') and one I-61. The I-61 worked great right out of the box. The Jupiters were a diferent story. Neither focused at all, and I ended up sending the white one to fedka.com for a tune-up. It worked great after that. I'm attaching a couple of images from the j8 and i61 mounted on my rd1. The two guys were done with the J8, and the child & grandfather were shot with the I61.

Take care,
Michael

My R-D1s have Russian lenses (J-12, J-3, J-8, Industar) almost 95% of the time. The J-12 is virtually my 'normal' lens for this camera. It focuses all the way to infinity. No appreciable vignettting, even at full aperture. The wide aperture J-8 (f/2) and J-3 (f/1.5) are my stand-bys for portraits. Shoots great at their full openings. The J-9 also works, but I hardly use it because of the necessity of using an extra finder for it.

I've successfully used all those that have worked on my other M mount bodies, that would be a J9, J8, I-22. My I-50 backfocuses as it did on my other M bodies, I haven't tried my I61 yet. I like the J8 a lot. I've heard the J12's can work, but I don't want to try mine on the RD1 as it goes so far back.

I think it does fit but I, too, am loath to risk my dearest camera. :)
