"I recently got the chance to try out the new Leica, and I must say that this is a good camera, and I notice that photographers have praised it. It is quite a complicated camera,..."
Note that the president considers it a complicated camera. I have a hunch the president normally uses his cameras in Auto or Program mode, and he has not yet located the M9 Snapshot mode, conveniently and rightfully hidden somewhere in the menu structure...

Which proves his point ... it is complicated if one of the raisons d'etre for a Leica is buried in menus!

Ha, ha!
Well, this article doesn't exactly make me like the guy any better.
But, I think we need to give him the benefit of the doubt. Afterall, he did start with manual cameras and used them for a long time. Maybe he means complicated for the ordinary, 'modern' photographer.
My M8 is certainly too complicated for the average person. At least that's what 90% of the people tell me that hold it and try to take a picture. I happen to think it's much more intuitive than all the "modern" cameras I run into.
I'm sure there are many other politicians who don't even know what photography is.

he seems to be attracted by the Leica badge and the high number of pixels of the M9... Still, he seems to know more than most politicians and has a feeling towards photography (I can't even imagine what "W" would have confused Leica with...)

I must admit, that's actually quite a nice photo...

Well Putin probably had to learn photography for his KGB spy training...
But Medvedev does make a very favorable presentation which surprises me.
Perhaps it's partially to appeal to the German audience, which is Russia's best trading partner? But regardless, it was quite novel to a see a world leader blogging at that level. I wish more did.
W. actually had better grades than Gore while at Yale. You shouldn't confuse poor diction with a lack of intelligence...

Bush went to Yale? Money can buy you a lot of things apparently. He strikes me as an Aggie drop out sort of guy. Can't see him w/ a camera in his hand. Wonder what the president uses? Ever notice that the press always refers to him by his last name, almost never as president Obama. Personally, I like a politician that uses a Leica. Well, as much as I like any politician that is. After Bill Clinton left the scene it doesn't much interest me anymore.

Saddam Hussein's regime used Hasselblads. I have seen them! It was rather an experience to walk into the Union of Women headquarters in Baghdad with my Zeiss Contina to see all these Hasselblad cameras one beside the other.
I guess, Iraqis have good taste in cameras.

As usual, things get lost in translation.
I watched his interview in Russian where he says that it's hard to shoot with a Leica (has nothing to do with complicated), but that he really likes the aesthetics of the camera. The last thing he said is that: "If one learned how to shoot with a Leica, they will definitely make good images with Canon, Nikon or anything else"
This is the short interview:

On that note, he still doesn't know how to hold it right

Is that a .95 noctilux in his hand? It's a big lens for sure.
