Only poor russians are interested in that old retro stuff. A russian colleague told me a joke about the russian elite he likes: one russian meets another russian. "Look my new Rolex. I paid 20.000 EUR for it". The other one: "You fool. At the shop around the corner you could buy it for 25.000 EUR". The first one: "Damn. Don't tell anyone or they think I am a big saver".

The Russian president Dmitrij Medvedev is visiting Oslo, Norway, right now. AS you see, he is using his Canon camera. Not his Leica. paralell to his visit the Norwegian-Russian Chamber of Commerce is running a conference (Networing Meeting), which I am attending. I had hoped to shake hands with Medvedev (as my brother-in-law once did with president Putin in St.Petersburg) and exchange Leica experiences - etc. But he arrived at the conferance together with the Norwegian prime minister Stoltenberg, plus security entourage etc. - held a speach, and left. I had no chance to muscle myself on to him and start talking 'the ups and downs of the Leica M9'.

When I left the conferance to fetch a taxi back home to change for the conferance dinner, I met Spoks. He had just started in his new job. With the French oil company Total.

I'll report more later....
