Indeed, it offers astonishingly good IQ... and your comment above (bold highlight) is the real crux of this. I can get very nearly DSLR-quality from something that fits in my pocket, and THAT is what makes the RX100 such a treasure.

I bought the RX100 to play the role of a fall-back camera... for the odd occasion when taking a "better quality" camera along might be inconvenient. I certainly didn't anticipate that it would begin to supplant the "better quality" camera...!
