the net is abuzz with tales of colour shift from left to right on images...once again perfection has eluded us...(tongue in cheek)
 
I swear some people just can't wait to find the faults in every new camera. The holy grail is unobtainable in cameras.
 
The dude is getting a new camera from Sony to replace the one that seems to have the color shift.

At least they are replacing it.

i still get these color shifts with my updated firmware on my NEX.

i'm glad Sony is trying hard to get into the small body full frame niche. But this kind of thing should have been taken care of before leaving the production lines. Especially with a reputation for their cameras already causing color shift and magenta casts.
 
Until others confirm it, it's a possible defect. Outsourcing quality control to the end-user is a time honored way of doing things (not saying it's right). But anyway, hard to condemn the whole thing based on this. If it starts popping up everywhere, then...

I prefer to condemn the camera on the basis of price! Just kidding. I'd pick one up if I saw it lying on the street. I wish Sony luck with it, it's a bold move.

Not strange at all. No finder (except for a $500 external clip on) and an inflexible user interface. The reviews indicate manual control is cumbersome.

The camera's user interface has to be well suited for many photographers. I am not one of them. So even though the sensor and lens are excellent, I would never buy a camera I won't enjoy using.
 
using the rear lcd is not so bad...i use it on the rx100 and no problems so far...in fact i think it's better for street shooting.

I understand that, and you've taken some great photos with your RX100.

But for many of us, it is a deal breaker, especially as this is a much heavier camera than the RX100. Most of my photo-taking errors come from the AF focusing on the wrong object, and I know that's what would happen with the RX1 for me, so the extra quality of the large sensor, compared to my X100, would be utterly wasted.

Still, the RX1 is a great harbinger of things to come.

You pretty much nailed it! And it's a wee bit pricey.
 
i've lost the itch for one at the moment.
while i like what i see coming from this camera...it's not really all that different from what i'm getting with the fujis.

It'll still have Sony's convoluted menus though... once they make a camera for people passionate about photography and not people passionate about camera spec wars, then they may have something.
