As I am seriously considering an S kit, do you guys know of any place where I can rent one in the US? I know this may not be easy but I figure if someone knows, this is the place to ask. :)

I am headed to South America this weekend and was thinking this will be the perfect time to really find out if an S outfit is for me as I will have plenty of time to do personal work after my paid shoot.

Cheers,

I've rented it for a couple of jobs now here in London, stunning files and a beautiful camera to use. I rented directly from Leica in the UK, actually the shop in Mayfair, but I would imagine getting in touch with Leica in the States to be your best bet. Rental prices were comparable with Hasselblad from Calumet.

A Leica S2 would be easy to rent - most of these are in rental studios in any case. But given the forum the OP asked in it sounds like he wanted to rent a Nikon S2/S3/SP - I am not aware of anyone renting these, globally. It already is hard to find a place that still rents ANY Nikon film SLR, even more so any older than a F6.

You should check the insurance, security, and travel terms, and check your policy, I doubt anyone (other than you) would like it if you took it out of the country without a very secure deposit.

I asked this same question on the LF Forum, there are several NYC places renting them.

The next question is which lens?

Seriously if you have the credit and are going for more than a few days, it may make sense to purchase a demo or used one if you are lucky enough to find one - they do exist - and then flip it on your return if you can't afford to keep it. Then you'll break even and have rented it for free, or the cost of an online transaction.

Uh, since this was posted in the Nikon RF forum, I think he's referring to a Nikon S mount rangefinder kit (e.g., S3 2000 or SP 2005).

Unfortunately, I'm unaware of any place that rents out vintage/old school cameras (w/the exception of the rare places that have some Leica stuff), though perhaps there someplace in Japan.

Opps thought he meant a Leica S2 since this is such a Leica-loving place and use the "New Posts" function.

Riccis you're crazy! Just buy one and resell it if you don't like it.

Yes, I was referring to a Nikon RF, sorry for the confusion :)

Well considering the forum you posted the question in I thought that was 'bleedin' obvious!' :D

I agree with Frank ... just buy one and re-sell it, it seems like an unlikely camera to rent.
