I'm planning on using the Nikon-S mount Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5 (2008) plus Amedeo adapter on a Leica M. The adapter has nice milled spots for the 6-bit coding. Since this lens will probably be the only one I'll be mounting on this adapter, I was thinking of coding it - what would be the proper code for this lens (or isn't it worth bothering)?

Thanks.

I found it. Fascinating. Congratulations on finding a unicorn! The one-bar 50/1.4 code will work - it's the same optic as the ZM C-Sonnar, for which that code works well.

What's your assessment of whether it's a Contax or Nikon mount? Scherer seems to think this is a Contax calibration, not Nikon.

Does Zeiss/Cosina or Scherer know the correct Nikon S-mount specifications? My answer is I think Scherer must be smoking joints made from paper that is exactly 0.31 mm thick :D

Lovely lens! Often think I should have kept mine.

Just to agree, my coded ZM version as above works fine on the M8 and my S mount version equally well via Amedeo coded adapter.I see no difference in performance, including focus. There is an article buried somewhere on the Zeiss site clearly stating it is S mount and the history of the manufacture. Not the easiest site Zeiss and I'm sorry I didn't bookmark the link.
