I recently picked up my S2 from hibernation (neglect, really) and I seem to remember the shutter button would not go all in the way after tripping the shutter. Now it does, as if I had cocked the shutter. Is this a sign of a problem arising?

The shutter button on my S2 goes in all way when uncocked. But I've only had it two days, so I can't say for certain that it's normal. My guess is you're OK.

Mine too, I have three of them, they all do.

depressing shutter release on S2
The shutter release on early S2s (prior to SP) will depress even when the shutter is uncocked. This closes the flash circuit, allowing multiple exposures when shutter is set to bulb. A dubious value IMHO. It can also result in unintentional flashes if you press the release and the camera is not cocked. So be careful. WES

That's what I call a niche feature. I suspect a design flaw dressed up as feature, not unknown
