Sad Day: My Last Roll of Kodak Plus X

Thanks for resurrecting- some beautiful shots there. I still have a brick of Plus-X 135 in the fridge and should shoot some before it gets more expired.

If Kodak ever were to bring it back, I'd buy some and shoot it. I used to shoot ISO 400 films almost exclusively and Acros (old version), but have found that FP4+ is quite lovely.

Very nice shots Greyscale. I especially like 4 and 6.

Thanks AAlfano.

After the recommendations here, I will have to give HP4 a try. I tried really hard with HP5 and did not get along with it at all, so I am not overly hopeful.

I just wish Kodak would bring back Plus-X. Who do I speak to about that?????? LOL

Sorry for been honest here. Emulsion looks just awful.

It was expired in 1977-1985. So for being 36-44 years old it looks pretty wonderful to me. But maybe not in the absolute sense. I still like it better than digitally simulated black/white

Thanks. I think the current emulsion that looks most like Plus X is ORWO UN54, you might consider giving it a try.

You may want to try either Lomography Potsdam 100 = ORWO Filmotech UN54

http://www.alexluyckx.com/blog/index.php/2019/10/07/film-review-blog-no-49-lomography-potsdam-100/

or Adox CHS 100 II

http://www.adox.de/Photo/adox-films-2/adox-chs-100-type-ii/.

The latter is orthopanchromatically sensitized like in the old days and said to have that vintage look.

The Aristo EDU Ultra 100 you mentioned = Fomapan 100

https://www.fotoimpex.com/films/foma-fomapan-100-13536.html

is said to be a little flatter in the shadows, so if you prefer shadow differentiation to contrast, you may want to try and overexpose this one like ISO 50 to 80. I got nice and very contrasty pictures @ ISO 100 from that one.

By the way, my Avatar with the sleeping dealer below the Lempicka painting was shot on Fomapan 200 (not 100) at Hannover antiques fair some 15 years ago (Minox 35 GL, f/2.8 at 1/15 s as far as I remember). Can't find the original scan on the hard drive, though. Results from Foma 100 and 200 were very similar, 200 tended to be even more contrasty - or in need of a little overexposure.

I am also a fan of Plus-X and was very sad to see Kodak discontinue it. I still have a brick in the fridge, and save it for special occasions…. In searching for a film with similar characteristics, I tried FP4+, Fomapan 200, and more recently Potsdam Kino. I like FP4+ well enough, but it isn’t quite the same. Fomapan 200 comes closer, with very rich dark grays and mid-tones. I haven’t shot enough Potsdam Kino to formulate an opinion.

Here are some Plus X pics I took in 2018 on a trip to France…
