Just following on trend using the word sadly in a thread title which seems to be a fall fad.

Sadly the PhotoPlusExpo is on Saturday October 24th, so Sunday the 25th for me would kill the weekend. Let's avoid the 25th.

You know what they say, "Misery loves company."

"Happily" I won't be at the photo expo either.

That leaves like the 11th or the 18th. Any votes for either of those two dates?

That's what we did a few years ago, and someone invited the execs from Rollei, which was fun.

Happily I will likely have my big Fuji lenses back from repair. Basically I had Frank Marshman build me a custom lens by taking the EBC multicoated glass out of a 100/3.5 AE that has a dead CdS cell and transplanting the optics into a chrome donor manual lens barrel.

Also secured a rare 150/5.6 Sonar through a barter. Had to get the wonky shutter worked on.

Now I have a big Fuji Texas Leica kit with 4 lenses and two bodies.

I shot with my Texas Fuji in LA -- one of the later 690's with 65 mm lens. I always wind up overshooting with that camera and wonder why I shot about 95 percent of the shots. Maybe the big viewfinder is too seductive.

Tomorrow I get three Fuji lenses delivered from repair. Really excited to have a big Fuji kit.

Yesterday I acted as a production assistant on a fashion photo shoot that involved two models. My friend Mike is a working Pro fashion photographer, the setting were street shots in my ghetto neighborhood, and included a whole crew that included hair, make-up, camera assistant, Maggie as the stylist, a styling assistant and me.

Five editorial looks from $15K worth of clothes that were lent to Maggie from the designer. Anyways this type of shooting is all about juggling a crew and management skills mixed with a bit of combat training. This gets very crazy. Mike was shooting teathered on the street, and we used the community room in our building (Mike is one of my neighbors) as the staging and dressing area.

Anyways I had a great experience, but clearly this style of work involves too much stress for a slacker like me. Wonderful to see great results and all the collaboration. Basically this was a collective effort where all the artists involved got a real nice addition to their "Book" of high end luxury in a great editorial set of work. The designer will be very pleased also. The cost was basically time but the payoff was big.

Interesting to note that seeing and experiencing all this only grounded me more firmly in my own work of shooting and printing in a high art manner as a fine art artist. Good to see a radically different way of expression that was refreshing.

Maggie's latest unpaid gig is that she will be Ms April on "Refinery 29's" calender that gets distributed around to the world's creatives. That photo shoot was just Saturday.

Interesting to note the I showed off one of my Piezography 13x19 work prints to Mike and James. Kinda flawed them with the IQ, the detail and tonality. Just great sharing with other artists.

Cal, sound like a great experience! Way back I worked as an unpaid assistant just to learn things and have fun. Fond times ...

You recommended heliopan #5 for the MM to get your desired histogram values to max IQ. How does the M246 work in this regard? Do you use the same filter or have you found something that works better for the different sensor? I haven't heard back from Leica on the conditions ($$) how they'll offer an upgrade for MM with sensor corrosion...
