Salgado: The Silent Drama of Photography

I've just watched the TED talk by Salgado titled the silent drama of photography.

Great photography and personality with a strong message.

His environmental project is just admirable but on a personal level I loved the section where he talks about how he decided to become a photographer after getting his PhD in Economics and working in the field for some time.

I'm now trying to finish my PhD in Politics and really don't know what to do about it. It doesn't give me any professional or personal excitement any more especially after the ridiculous level of commercialization in the university sector. I wish I could be strong enough to change the path of my life as Salgado did and follow my passion - photography...

I have been to his Genesis exhibition in London. It is one of the highest quality set of prints i have ever seen and his messages are well delivered.
On career changing, you should have a clear path to become a paid photographer before decided to give uo what you studied. Start with small jobs to see how you fare with it as a job. Do it leisurely is much more enjoyable than having the stress in it. I find ming thein document on how he quitted his legal job to becoming full timer photographer is well written. It should be made w rationals not romance 😉 hope it helps.

Well, how about explaining to the world, that the left right division does not make sense any more? That what makes sense today, is a division between dogmas and knowledge?
This should suffice for a lifetime's work.

I met him in his photo Exibhition "Africa" in Doha 2010.
Agree, pictures are amazing and nice person.

Amazed with his descission move his career from World Bank Economist to be Photographer.
He prove working with his passion in photograhy produced very good result (including financial income).
