I was stationed at Philly Naval shipyard in 80-81 while our ship, USS LaSalle went through SLEP. Then I went to NAS Atlanta fuel farm. Just read on your blog you met Don. Never had the privilege but got acquainted with his blog when he was a regular here. I saw the article where you experienced the crash with the A-4. Didn't refuel too many of them but the A-7 Corsair that crashed near Dobbin's AFB I took care of them.

Thank you for all your kindness. Greatly appreciated. If any of you guys ever come to New York know that you have a friend who can take you around, as long as it is not cold out. I have plenty of vacation in my bank and wouldn't mind giving you a tour off the beaten path, even if it means taking a day off work.

I shoot a lot of urban landscape, but I particularly love industrial areas and urban decay. Some places I go are kinda uninhabited. These places are moody that speak of neglect and abandonment. Also on the other hand I shoot a lot of street where the street is basically a theater and everyone is an actor.

I know I come off as loud and perhaps obnoxious, but this is only my persona on RFF, but I also like to think of myself as a tourist attraction and one of the reasons why people like to visit New York.

BTW Ashville is a possibility and on my list. Maggie (AKA Lyn) is a bit of a stylist and fashion maven. She kinda cleaned me up. While Savannah has SCAD, Ashville also has a strong arts community. Also know that I use to be a bicycle bum who lived to ride. I use to race bicycles and get my butt kicked in. Would really like a bike friendly place.

Savannah does not tax pension income or Social Security. These tax advantages place Georgia high on the list. Being 55 1/2 years old, means I'm looking to take the money and run at 59 1/2 to retire.

BTW I lived in New Mexico for a year and a half. At that time I lived in the Santa Fe National Forest 47 miles from civilization. Effectively I lived like Henry David T... in Walden Pond. I'm able to leave that New York attitude behind.

Stop by Monterey Square to shoot the monument to Casimir Pulaski of Poland, the father of the American cavalry in the Revolution. The cornerstone was placed by Lafayette at another spot and then moved here.
 
Probably would be able to make a day trip out of it from Charleston SC. Would love to meet ya'll, if possible.

I lived in Savannah for 12 years during the '80's and '90's and am a SCAD alum also (Historic Preservation, Class of '86.) Unbelievably beautiful city in late March and early April when the azaleas are blooming. Quite nice the rest of the year, although, as has been mentioned, it get's - ahem - rather "moist" in the summertime. I second Seamuis' caveat to watch your belongings. Don't eat for at least three days before your trip! If architectural photography is your thing, you're in for a treat; great residential, civic and religious buildings abound. Not sure how the music scene is there anymore, but River Street and the west side of downtown used to rock back in the day.

I'm sure I'll be coming back a few times. Kinda on purpose wanted to see the heat and humidity at its worse.

I was thinking of bringing either a Rollie 3.5F or a Plaubel 69W with a lot of Fuji Acros. The Plaubel is a 6x9 that has a 47/5.6 Super Augulon that offers shifts even though its a 120 camera. The 45/5.6 is basically a 21mm FOV.

I only have 5 days so shooting will be limited. Maggie and I expect to come back during the semester break.

My interests are similar - urban landscape, etc. I won't have time on my way through JFK on July 8 but hope to make a trip just to NYC sometime.

Have a great meet in Savannah - I'd be there except that I'm flying back home on July 19. I'll wave from the airplane and I'll be watching for future Southeast US meetings.

I checked my itinerary and discovered I made a mistake. The dates five days in Savannah begins Monday July 22d and I'll be leaving late Friday July 26th.

Hoping that this confusion did not get imposed on anyone in a bad way.

Well, for me, no problem...actually easier as that is one of the few weeks we don't have the grandkids 10 hours/day!:angel:

So, I will just move my plans forward to the next week. Jeff, Al and others may want to look at their schedules and respond, too.

If not, maybe all is not lost...still juggling to see how everybody is settling down and we just might be coming in on the weekend. Who knows? Still got a good bit of time to work on it!🙂

Some airlines now charge $200 to change flight dates. I'm still looking at hotels, so my schedule is still flexible.
 
I deeply apologize for all the confusion and the inconveniences.

My only excuse is that I've been getting a second opinion and have been managing all these doctors' appointments. I now have a new Primary Care Physician and a second Hematologist, as well as an unplanned visit to the emergency room visit over the past few weeks.

Life has been a little beyond my control for the past few weeks and that is how this mistake arose. Again my apologies.

No big deal Cal, except that I would have genuinely enjoyed meeting you!

I am in Savannah a lot being only ~2.5 hours away and with family out on a coastal island. If not this trip ... I am confident we shall meet in the future!

Jeff,

I hope we do meet one day, and if you ever do make it to New York how about a Peter Luger steak on me.

BTW I'm thinking of bringing my Monochrom with a 28 Cron because its small and for the high ISO flexibility. The resolution is like MF and with the use of filters to control clipping the contrast dynamic range gets pretty close to MF.
