While looking for another Luigi half-case for an M camera, I started to feel bad to let go of the original M camera case for my M3. The leather looks of condition so-and-so with some stitching needed to keep the case together. Today, I took this case to a leather repair place and they told me that they will stitch the leather back together, plus they will reinforce two places in the case from inside, plus they will make the case as a half-case removable when needed from the front cover. They suggested that I later apply some leather conditioner to the case. The repair will cost me $25.

I wonder what quality the leather of the M cases actually is. Did Leitz choose the best available leather to match a camera such as the M3?

I doubt that they would choose a second grade leather for their top of the line (at the time) M3.

I have my M6 in a Luigi half case, and my M2 and M3 in the botom half of their ever ready cases. I like the ever ready cases because the camera strap attaches to them instead of the camera. Sometimes I like to use the camera without a case or a strap.

Frank: This is a good point for keeping the ever ready cases, and I also always liked the fact that the camera straps attach to the case and not the camera. Of course, the case is screwed to the body for stability. I think of the Luigi half-case as a soft-leather custom designed slip-on leather shoe whereas the ever-ready case is a sneaker with laces.
