Scanner choice

@ zerobuttons: I had the Coolscan V ED, the "smaller" brother of the current 5000. The filmholder had to be bought separately (option) and I had to wait 3 weeks to get it ... If the film only slightly curls, the Coolscan V ED can't handle it ...

The glass inserts can be bought from betterscanning.com and are available for many flat-bed scanner.
 
The best of the nikons for b&w negs either 35 or meduim format is the 9000 over the 5000 the 9000 shows less straches than the 5000
 
But, if you only have a need for 35mm scanning, are the scans from the 900 twice as good as scans from the 5000? The price is double. Maybe a bit more. Are the scans twice as good?
