Hi,

I've got a ArtixScan 4000tf (similar to the Polaroid Sprintscan 4000 with firewire) and it's quite dusty inside. I contacted Microtek and they charge $75 plus shipping to and from California (I live in Manhattan) to clean it out. Do you know of any local solutions for getting the crud out of scanners? If the Microtek route is the only option I think I might as well just buy a new epson v500, as I don't currently plan on making prints from my scans. I'd appreciate your advice either way.

best,
davide

See if there is a local Microtek service tech in NYC. If not, why don't you try cleaning it yourself or ask a local camera repair. Try calling Berry Camera Repair and see what they recommend for the heck of it.

Good luck!

davide,

I would suggest that you clean it yourself using Tony Sleeps instructions - quite easy and can be repeated every 4/5 to 6/7 months dependant on use.

These photos are scans with my freshly cleaned (then) 4000tf - Good luck.

Hi Wahoo,

Thanks for the link. I've encountered those instructions before but am wary of doing something wrong and knocking the whole scanner out of calibration. Your scans look really nice though and are making me think I should give it a try.
