What scanner to buy for 35mm and 120 film?

i also recently purchased a 750 and am stunned by the quality just got it and have done more medium format and large format but the few 35mm were impressive.

had other epsons and the microtek 120 film scanner for a reference point.

the 120 from the 750 matches the microtek.

As in most things, you get what you pay for. The question I'd ask myself is if, after having gone to the trouble and expense of shooting medium format, I then want to give back some of the resolution and detail I got by doing that by using a flatbed scanner. Because make no mistake - you will, even with the very good flatbed models available today.

Like others, I ended up getting a Nikon Coolscan 9000 after trying the high-end flatbed route. Would have saved some money if I'd just bit the bullet back in the beginning.

And BTW, the 9000 WILL batch scan.

The V700 can scan 24 frames at once. That's a full roll of film, if you think of 24-exposure rolls 😀

I bought the v700 (same situation - need for both 35mm and MF but $2000+ for a dedicated film scanner) and i am happy with it. It's not perfect (esp. the film holders are ****ty) but it does a reasonable job for my needs.

There IS an aftermarket solution for the holders, the "better scanning" website stuff (Doug Fisher, the author/owner will step into this discussion sooner or later). It's not cheap, though, at 75$, if i'm not mistaken.

I don't think a 6x6 scanned on the v700 can only reach the quality of a 6mp image. It surely does not reach 6400 dpi, but still.
