The V700 gives you all you need. I have done 35mm, Minox, Widelux and 120 with no problems. I had a Microtek i800 for years and it was also good.

...modified it with a wire and tape to behave like a SA-30 (so now it scans full rolls, not strips of 6 negatives).
Would be very interested to know how this modification was accomplished? Is it something a moderately handy person could do? I'm not an electrical engineer, though.

very easy. Just get a thin wire and stuff the ends in two holes on the SA-21 connector. I put some tape over it to keep it in place and punched a few holes in it to not bend the pins inside the scanner.
it took a few tries to position the wire in a way it really shortens the contact.

an excerpt from there:
Incidentally, for those who do not want to take the risk of opening
their SA-21 up and making a permanent solder link modification, there is
an alternative temporary fix, albeit a little less reliable.
The two contacts of the link in question connect directly to pins 16 and
17 of the blue rear connector on the SA-21. Looking into the rear of
the SA-21 with the adapter the correct way up, pin 13 is on the middle
row on the left of the connector, so just count 4 and 5 pins across and
you get to the two pins in question. These can be shorted together
using some very fine wire - thin enough so that the operation of the
connector contact is not interfered with. Then hold the link wire in
place with some adhesive tape - Scotch Magic tape works quite well for
this.
Before pushing the SA-21 back into the scanner, make sure that you
pierce the adhesive tape over each contact in the connector block with a
pin. This will prevent the corresponding pins in the scanner being
subjected to additional pressure as the adapter is pushed home in the
scanner.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately, I have the LS-50. Oh well, I don't mind so much scanning only 5 or 6 at a time.

I use Minolta Dimage III .Almost 12 MP - more than sufficient . I paid 80 euros for it . Makes strips of six automatically.
Here's a sample :

If you can afford I suggest the Elite II Minolta , it has ICE2 wich is veeery useful (if you don't want to manually corect the scratches).Or the Minolta 5400 Elite .Or the Nikons already discussed here .
For the moment I use only the original Minolta software , I don't shoot so much film and the results are good . No need for me to get another soft.
