Hi there,
I got bored of digital cameras. I used Canon 1Ds, Nikon D2x, Fuji S2, top notch primes and zooms and one month ago, I realized I just wanted a camera to take pictures always with me and digital wasnt the way to go. Why ? Cause i needed 3 mules and 1 camel to lug around my array of lenses and this and that gadget. Plus its easy to slack with digital. Hey its free. so dont worry much about getting it right, just bracket a lot, crop here and there, you can fix almost everything in post processing.
So there I was, went to the store and sold everything. Picked up a Leica M7 plus a 35 and a 90 ASPH's. Im a happy camper now.
But since the framelines arent 100% accurate ( or again user error , but from one roll I tested theres some margin of error ) plus I want to share my photos with other people via web, I would like to buy a good film scanner.
35mm dedicated scanner pops to my mind, Nikon out of equation. Why ? im on a macintosh, with intel processor and Nikon has no drivers for their scanners for mac intels. Bummer.
So I narrowed my search to a Minolta IV Dual Scan and a Epson 4990. Im leaning towards the 4990 because it has ICE built in, but the Minolta seems a good combo * although Ive been reding here and there some problems with batch scanning *.
I mainly use Velvia slides ( 100 ) , Kodak 400TC and Fuji Portra. Didnt shoot much Kodachrome but would like as well.
Any recommendations for a good scanner up to 300/350 pounds ( roughly 550/650usd or euros ) ?
Looking to hear from you

The Nikon Coolscan V ED sells for $550 at B&H Photo in New York. I got one and I like it very much except for the software. The Nikon software ran very poorly on my machine using 100% resources making my CPU temperature go from around 35C to over 60C. I purchased VueScan software and now it works very well and scans are better too. I found that the digital ice works very well with slides and colour negatives but sometimes a scratch here and there still remain.
