Scanner Newbie - is there a primer somewhere?

I just jumped back into RF film world and would like to research about scanning my own film.

I would like to be able to scan 6x6 negs in addition to 35mm and possibly even 110 😱. Primarily though for 35mm. There is a local pro camera shop w lab close by that can develop and scan 35mm/MF for $20. Or there is also Costco but I don't think they do Tri-X, only C-41 stuff.

I remember many moons ago thinking about getting a Nikon Coolscan that could do 35 & 6x6 - the $ stopped me from thinking.
I'm assuming technology has made scanners a bit more affordable now - is this the case?

Is there somewhere here or elsewhere where you folks can point me to scanners?

The Cliff's Notes condensed version for 35mm & medium format. I've never seen 110 holders mentioned. They may be there. Don't know for sure.

1. Nikon Coolscan 8000/9000. Big bucks. Best performance under really BIG bucks for a hugely expensive, hugely complicated pro flatbed or drum scanner.

2. Epson 1680, 4990, v700, v750 and other models. $150 to $700ish. The 700-750 are current models available new. The others are used. These models add 4x5 scanning. They are perfectly acceptable for 16x20 prints from 6x7 negatives and 8x10 prints from 35mm. Those are the largest I have made. I'm sure larger is possible.

3. The Epsons can be improved with Betterscanning film holders, anti-Newton ring glass, fluid mounting.

4. Canon made models similar to the Epsons. They turn up used from time to time.

5. Read the fine print. Not all flatbed scanners that claim they will scan film will scan any size other than 35mm.
