Scanning problem

I'm still learning how to make decent scans, and now I have encountered a new problem while scannings some old slides with my CanoScan 8600f. There are white streaks or bands in the left side of every picture. What am I doing wrong here?

I would be very grateful for your advice!

Probably nothing, assuming the streaks are not on the film itself. The scanner probably needs serviced.
