scanning slides and negs.. which way up?

maybe this is covered in the owners manual that I never read.. but does it matter which side of the slide or negative faces the scanning lens?

btw, I have a Nikon Coolscan V, in case that matters

The emulsion side should face the scanners ccd

Or the picture will be reversed.

well yeah.. altho most of what I've been scanning lately are my brother's landscape shots and I'd have no idea which way was right.. but I've never really noticed any significant difference in the scans from the emulsion and non-emulsion sides
