Scanning - Vuescan or Silverfast

If you want the scharpest bw image you have to use only the green channel because it has most details.

If you are are always going to use the green channel, then why bother scanning color and ending up with such a huge file?* vuescan lets you select which channel to make b&w from

Opinion: I'd consider the whole "which channel is sharpest" thing an internet myth. The apparent sharpness you see is nothing more than a difference in contrast. Which channel gets you the "sharpest" may also vary from scanner to scanner.

*Bottom line: use whatever you feel works best, but why add so much more work, _unless_ you plan on using various parts of each channel within the same image? Personally, even this step is too much work.
