I'm not happy with the quality of my scans (HP PSC 750), anybody have any sugestions for a replacement scanner, I'm thinking one that can scan negs would be the way to go. Of course cost always comes into the equation. I have tried having my prints finished in matt as I have been told you get a lot of reflection back with the gloss which affects the scan. I cant say doing this has improved the quality though.

Cheers David

Scanning the negatives is way better - it's copying the first generation, not the second.

What size negatives are you scanning, and how big do you want to print/displat? If it is only 35mm and you have the budget, a dedicated film scanner would be the best. If you want a multi-purpose scanner, then a flatbed is the only answer.

You may want to wait until HP release their new flatbed scanners (G4050, G4010), or look at something like the Epson 4990 or V700, or Canon 9950F.

Keep the matt side of the negative against the light source. Try it. My Epson 4990 is not sensitive to this phenomenon. If you think you will scan only 35 mm, get Minolta scanner
