I just got back my second roll of Portra from the Find lab and I'm very impressed. FYI I have no affiliation with the lab.
These are my first couple rolls of Porta. Previously I've shot Ektar, before that lots of Velvia. I've had both drum and Flextight scans that I've been happy with. I had been reading about people loving the results from Frontier and Noritsu scanners (here http://www.sebastian-schlueter.com/blog/2018/3/7/the-magic-fuji-frontier-sp-3000 and here http://www.johnnypatience.com/richard-photo-lab/ for instance ) and thought I'd try something different.
On my first roll I asked the lab to scan neutral, hold as much detail across the board as possible. They needed a little work to match my preference. Little really means little. Maybe 5 minutes w/each tweaking brightness and contrast.
What really impressed me is the labs willingness to adjust the scans on my next roll based on the tweaks I did on the first one. I sent them some examples of what I did to their scans and they sent me some samples to approve based on my preference. They were spot on! The second roll needed very little work. A few images none at all. A few less than a minute tweaking brightness and contrast.
I ended up going with Noritsu scans really due to the bigger file size. They look great. I'm about to make my first large prints, but on the screen at view print size the have great detail and tonality. The large scans come in at 16x16, plenty big for me most of the time.
A whole roll processed and scanned costs half what I paid for a drum scan!
