Schroedinger's camera

I thought that if you took the roll out it reset? that is what my M3 does

Just advance the lever a fraction and see if the red dots on the knob rewind move. Skinny, unlike the M3, the M2 does not reset.

Turn the rewind knob. Do Not Lower The Rewind Lever Before Doing It. If there's resistance, then there's film inside.

BTW, unlike the M3, in which the counter resets itself when you pull the rewind spool, in the M2 you reset the frame counter manually. It was, after all, an economy M3.

Simple - just check if all manufactured rolls of film upto say 6 month ago are accounted for, and if there is one missing - it is in your M2!

I like the concept of quantam mechanics that this topic is using. I was just going to recommend rewinding the film without pressing the release and see if it's tensed. If it tenses up after a while, we've got a winner! If it's loose like a rusty caboose, then it's most likely empty.

Jano's M2 has a Quick Load kit installed. There is no need to take the wind-up spool out. By now I am sure Jano knows about film in his M2.
I regularly forget to keep an eye on the rewind spool to check its turning on winding. I even had a film torn off the spool without higher resistance. 38, 39 frames becomes suspicious!

Jano - Is the M2 still red?
