On the way to Santa Fe during my 2011 trip, I stopped at a gas station along the Will Rogers Turnpike (I-44) in Oklahoma, east of Tulsa. It was around 3am, and the station was closed, but I just needed to stretch my legs after several hours of driving. Right next to the place that I parked was this little metal box on one of the pillars that holds up the roof over the gas pumps. I laughed when I saw the sticker of a lit bomb screaming, as though it is telling us to "Get out of the way, I'm about to blow!"

That's great! A big step up over graffiti, the quality of which I think has deteriorated over the years. I don't see as much of the interesting stuff that I saw in the 80's.

Here in Philly there is a lot of "guerilla art", ranging from stenciled spray-paint to decals like the one you found. A great project would be to collect examples (I have a few but not organized). I really like this sort of thing. My daughter is into it big time, gives me a direct point of contact. ;-)

Thanks for the info. Not sure why you thought it was bursting some bubble. I do documentary photography, so am glad to know what it means!

Likewise, I don't see why that is deflating - part of the point of guerilla art is to reuse/steal existing cultural icons, like logos. For what it's worth, it might be a promotional sticker the company made.

Randy, have you heard of Banksy?

Yes, my kid's hero! I've tried to get her a dedicated collection on Banksy without success, could only find books that featured him along with others.

Also, I can second the recommendation for "Exit through the gift shop", a fascinating commentary on art, notoriety in the media age, and I'm not sure what else. ;-)

I believe it's Wall and Piece, it's a pretty good book :]

And that's Adam Bomb, the mascot for The Hundreds as someone pointed out!

Actually, I was looking for that book, but could not find it in local stores. First time I looked for it as a Birthday gift, second as Xmas gift, both times stiffed. My fault, I should have ordered in advance.

I will get it for sure this holiday season.

Thanks!

Ahhh! It's always in stock at my local book stores! Best of luck, it'd make a very good gift!
