I've been shooting with an R3a for over a year now. Switching to the rangefinder format as allowed me more creative freedom than was possible with an SLR. I've enjoyed the experience very much. Is nice. I like.

My one gripe about the leica's were the damn awkward film loading method. And lack of life size viewfinder. And that goudy red dot.

But damn my reluctance. I just pulled the trigger on an M7 .85x.

I blame you. All of you.

I feel your pain. I asked a question here recently and was told "just get the MP now -- you will eventually anyway." I'm afraid they may have been right... I might news like yours next week.

You could not have made a better choice. Now, I have a bit of advice for you. What you need is a really good 50mm lens to go with that excellent 0.85 mag M7. A pre-ASPH 50mm Summilux is a perfect match, a modern body with all the comforts of AE and perfect shutter speeds, and a lens that gives you the look of the 50's -60's. A match made in heaven! 🙂 Also now that you know how good the CV bodies are you need to get an R4A when they come out in April; made for the wide-angles that you will use with your 50mm and 50+ lenses. You need an R4A! 😀

Or you could substitute "Food other than Ramen noodles..." 🙂
lol - It's insane that bottled water is more expensive than a few packs of Ramen noodles, so a liquid diet isn't really the most economic route.

It is a bit steep isn't it? The worst thing is that you supply your own body cap.
Wow, that is the icing (or cool-whip?) on the pie-in-your-face. Do they keep a straight face when they hand you the bill, or is that extra?

Lucky duck! After being lucky enough to shoot with the M8 over a weekend t just made me want to have an M7. Sweet aperture priority!
For loading film, just follow the instructions exactly, add a spoonful of faith and you will now realize it is actually the BEST film loading system ever invented.
Now this whole red dot thing...I honestly don't understand the problem. Is eveyone worried about thieves? A savvy thief will know it's a Leica dot or not, a common thief will think it's a toy because it doesn't have a motor drive or telephoto lens.
I've also heard people think taping up the dot makes them more stealthy. Guess again!

The problem with the dot has little to do with thieves and more to do with the fact that it offends the gods of style.

As for bottom loading, I will add my voice to those who sing it's praises. I shoot with M3's, and still love it. Modern Leica loading, a la M4-M7 is even easier. Plus, I get 38 or 39 frames on every roll.

Peter, you really are bad ... to the bone. And in a forum where, as Oscar Wilde would say, we can resist anything but temptation ...

I echo the thoughts of an earlier poster that said you should have bought an MP, as you will eventually ; )

I had an M6, and I taped over the red dot as many do. It's not about thieves but about a cleanness of style. I traded that body out for the MP, and I must say that I believe the shutter is more quiet (subjective) and the advance lever action is smoother (also subjective).

I love the black paint, and absence of "Leica M6" and the red dot on the front of the camera.

I have heard some say that the viewfinder is bettter than the one on the M6 (even upgraded ones). I don't know about upgraded M6's, but I can tell you that I like the viewfinder on my MP much better than my former M6 (built in 1996 or so).

Welcome to the RF club. There's no turning back now!

I blame my Leica purchase on circumstances that took place during the formative years of my youth. Does anybody remember Red Ball Jets? Ever since I've worn those sneakers, I have subliminally been attracted to the red dot. I love the red dot!😀
