Screwy adapter markings?

I have wondered the same thing.

It would make sense only if Leica had an external set of "goggles" to convert the 50mm framelines into a 28mm FOV for the 28mm LTM lens.

But I have never seen one of those!

Was talking to a FLCS owner last week (as he was trying to convince me to spend GBP35 on one and I was having none of it) and asked hime this question.

He says he recalls being told by someone he trusted to know that the full VF on an M3 could approximate a 28. It's a whole since I looked through an M3, but I seem to recall the 50 lines being a bit big for this to be the case.

Any insight?

I am not a Leica expert but from the adapters I have seen it is the early ones that are marked this way. Later ones are marked as per the M6 framelines. I suspect the reason was to suggest using this adapter for 50's and all wider lenses. This would then bring up the minimum distractin in the finder. If you used a 90 or a 135, it would bring up the extra lines which aren't needed. It is for this reason that I use the widest adater I can for the CV 25 ie 50 on M3 and 35 on M2.
