Seal sports a Leica M9

Yes, he actually shoots with it too. Seal posts over at Steve Huff's site on occasion, and even gave away one of his M9s once, if I got the details straight in my brain.

Seems like a nice guy (i don't know him), but he writes knowledgeably and thoughtfully about photography.

That is a Leica MP.

This is Seal and his M9 Ti.

It was a most unfortunate fiasco when he attempted tp post here at RFF. At first, it wasn't believed that he was who he said he was, and then sour grapes kicked in. (think: unobtainium on many different levels at once)

He gets his for free but he is also a collector who buys quite a bit. A so-so photographer in my opinion. Nice guy though, I met him at the 9/9/09 launch.

That actually looks like an M8. Are there different flavors of M9 bodies --besides the Silver/Black/Ti color variations?

Correction (oh, Google, your use is so ever helpful): indeed, that is an M9 Titanium.

Who cares. He's a bloke who happens to be able to sing and like cameras. I believe he pays like the rest of us for his gear, read a post or two some time ago.
Seems as if some people get bent out of shape because someones rich and famous and start stupid arguements. It's just fame envy I suppose.
Looks like an M9 as their is no battery compartement.

Yep, not a high point. Nerves were still a bit raw from a couple of recent "incidents" when he showed up. Too bad it turned out that way.

While he does pay for most of his gear he regularly gets newly released cameras and lenses for free from Leica.

For free? so he's obviously not getting paid for the time spent promoting Leica gear.
It's a bit like the F1 chaps getting company cars from the teams. I'd say nice work if you can get it!

Are you absolutely sure? Because they're not outstandingly generous towards 'celebrities', at least in Europe. I use the quotation marks not because I wish to denigrate Seal (I've never actually heard of him) but because despite their their long history of presenting landmark serial numbers to famous people, and although they do hand out limited numbers of cameras (more rarely lenses) for pre-release testing and long-term review, for the most part they don't give a toss about having their cameras seen in the hands of celebrities who don't pay for them.

Cheers,

R.

Honestly, does it matter if he pays our not? He is a Leica enthusiast and user, that much we know.

Exactly, who cares. He promotes the gear so if he does happen to get anything for his trouble then why not.
If I could I would but then I would also want to get issued with one of those models in the perfum ads. Seems only fair :)

I think it is cool that he likes the same cameras that I (we) do........

I imagine that he has some amazing photos of his family, but due to the nature of who he is, and who his wife is, he probably doesn't want to post them (neither would I).......but I do recall seeing some of his photos that he posted here, and the guy obviously knows what he's doing........
he's a cool guy in my book

cheers, michael

Seal is a bit different I think. He's such an enthusiast that he is/was one of the Leica ambassadors.
