Looks like Sean has posted details about the issues with the M8 on another site. Sean, will you post it here please if not, can we repost it? An issue like this should be shared as much as possible.

the same problem was also evident in the original nikon d2h, people were using hot filters to correct the prblem. nikon d2hs fixed the problems.

here we go again....

but i am not let ing it bother me , and in the event that some of my shots have this issue, i will just toss those shots.!!

It would be nice to have the information shared here. Thats all I am asking of Sean.

Having read Sean's recap of what Christian Erhard told him as Leica's official word on the magenta-cast issue (that we'll need to buy special filters for all lenses and that and new firmware will only help if a lens is coded, thus aside from added cost ruling out the use of older Leica and all Voitlander lenses) I have lost all confidence there will ever be an M8 in my travel bag. And so to not appear as a "basher" I will henceforth refrain from commenting on the M8. I wish all those who have bought or will buy one the best of health and happy experiences with their new camera. You can find me on the Leica M board, as I have no immediate plans to divest myself of Leica film equipment.

Having read Sean's post there I have made up my mind to wait with the M8 purchase. I had no intention of coding my 7 Leica lenses. I never missed the lack of exif info with my R-D1 or with film.. I also never use filters on my Leica lenses, neither when I use film, nor when I use the R-D1.. THe fact that Leica offers a "solution" in that form might suggest that if anybody buys a camera now, and latter they do fix it, they will not hold themselves responsible to fix his camera, since they already suggested an acceptable solution... They never upgraded the viewfinder of early buyers of the M7, after they upgraded it to the MP finder, unless fully paid. Why should they hold themselves responsible if they take that solution to be satisfying?

After reading Sean's post I am thinking that there is nothing left for me to hope for about the M8 and cancel my order. That really sucks! I travel allot and was looking forward to not have to carry as much film while I travel. Looking forward to a little bit of that digital instant gratification. I know we are supposed to keep our "whining and Groans" to a minimum but I am tired of having to think about what kind of work arounds I will have to implement in order to use this camera.

All those who received the Tony Rose list for the second coming of the "M8" If your wait number was greater then number 14 then you just got bumped up a number.

Cheers

Come on Glenn! TRy it you'll like it! You didn't move me up a spot, darn it!

LOL, I'm Ok just steamed at Leica a little. You know the issues the camera has are not what steams me as much as Leicas response. A response that in my opinion lacks respect for their customer. The customer is used to getting the most finely crafted cameras on the market today. OK, I'm going to go put a wet towel on my neck.

the epson r-d1 had also lot's of problems but people figured them out and worked around them. as i mentioned before the original nikon d2h also had some of these problems but it was rare and most everybody worked around it.

for me the M8 is the perfect camera

jeez, I thought the hype over this toy would be on a healthy upward peak for a good 6 months before falling from grace.

where did he write his post? Could someone please provide the link?

It's quite amazing how Leica was so careless in testing and refining the M8. I actually believe they haven't realized how they're shooting themselves in the foot with the M8. I'm also amazed at the number of M8 buyers that will actually accept all of this flaws on a 5k camera...

Instead of increasing their target audience, the M8 is actually making Leica further away from potential customers...

I don't think Leica were careless. It is easy to criticize "after the facts". there is no way that a bunch of technicians could experience in advance any possible scenario- when a camera gets to the wide public that is when it genuinely being tested.
I don't think they are shooting themselves in the foot. THey should address it. This world is new to Leica, as it is to most of us. They had to have the M8, many of us want it and there is no way around it.
If I knew that the M8 current version is the final version I would have bought one in spite of the "issue" and would do my best to address the problem in practical situations. The only reason I will wait now is because I don't want to find myself when a better solution is offered and it is beyond my reach. I don't have money for two M8. In fact I had to sell Leica M6 and canon 5D to be able to fund the M8.

Yes, it is (was?) for me too.

We just all steamed about the extra UNPLANNED expense of at least $1000 additional to get all our lenses 6-bit coded right away AND the added cost to buy lots of stupid IR filters.

Yeah, that's the word for the evening: THIS IS STUPID, LEICA!

I'll decide about refusing the UPS shipment tomorrow before the normal UPS delivery time rolls around on our sundial.

For Pete's sake; what a mess during what should have been an otherwise happy week.

Well, in one of those posts on one of those other sites, he wrote:

Maybe he got tired of people here bashing him for occasionally mentioning that he has a subscription site...

It seems some people who were upset with him over the Ascender/Seal saga went over to FM and complained about his plugging his site - he got banned from FM. There's someone on the Leica forum at photo.net bashing him as well over not discussing the M8's flaws in his initial reviews. So now it seems he feels most welcome at the Leica User forum.

makes you wonder doesn't it? equipment manufactures and equipment reviewers make strange bed fellows. I guess we'll never know.

LOL :D :D :D

This is a riot.. seriously... someone should go and pick the folks at Leica up by their short and curlies for apparently releasing such a ridiculous response to the net..

Christian's response to the IR problem is laughable and reminds me of the "Liar" character that Jon Lovitz used to play on Saturday Night Live:
"No no.. the IR issue can actually...umm... HELP.. ya... that's it.. it'll help you guys doing IR photography.. ya.. it's a hidden benefit see."
and
"Ya ya.. you can drop this great IR Filter onto your lenses to make everything look normal again.. isn't that great!! See.. we've fixed the problem!! Just put these little filters over the glass that costs thousands of dollars and you'll get normal looking colours again"

What a load of rubbish.

Come on; I'm sure Christian would be great in politics too.

This is truly laughable..

Dave
