Search for silents?

Hi All.

My first post on this forum. I have been reading most of the treads on this forum and I truly enjoy RFF forum. Anyway I just sold my Sony A700 to fund a M4/3 camera.

I am leaning towards the E-p2 but somebody told me that the shutter is not at all silent.

Since I have a newborn I am really looking for a camera that is quiet. Does anybody have recommendations.

which m4/3 camera is most suited? E-p2 or G1 or GF1

I have an Ep-1 and while the shutter isn't totally silent, IMO it is pretty quiet. The autofocus does a whirring sound as well. I also find this audible yet unobtrusive. Out on the street, or in a room filled with coversation, the noises could easily be drowned out. I don't think it's loud enough to wake a baby.

The combination of mirror slap and shutter noise on most SLRs are noisier than the noise you will hear from either GF1 or EP1. Unless you are taking pictures in a relatively quiet environment, the ambient noise around you should drown out the noise from these camera for anyone not close to where you are taking the picture as the previous poster has mentioned.

Thank you for the response. I am glad to hear it is not that bad.

PS AF is not that important to me since I generally use manual focus lenses.

You can turn off the focus confirmation beep and turn off the volume related stuff all you are left with on a GF1 is the shutter noise.

You will definitely notice it and those immediately around you but I have my doubts anyone not immediately next to you will hear it unless the ambient noise level is pretty low.

shutter sound of the e-p1/2 is really quiet. significantly quieter than all the dslrs

That is an interesting web site. I am leaning towards the e-p1 or e-p2, since the Oli has image stabilisation in the body.
