Sebastiao Salgado now uses digital but with a film work flow

Interesting thread.

I've just been to the "Genesis" exhibition in London and the photography / locations are utterly stunning. However, I was a bit disappointed with the post processing as this looks (to me) a bit like slightly over-cooked HDR in a number of his photos.

Apparently, he started off the project on film and then switched to DSLR. According to DXO's website, he's using their "film pack" to give the results a film "look" but I must admit that I wasn't completely sold on the presentation as the end result seems to be a bit too "punchy" and dramatised and lacks the subtlety of a lot of his earlier output.

It's still a great set of photographs and a wonderful exhibition for anyone who wants to go and see it, though....

Thanks for sharing the link, interesting read.

He's an admirable man and a hard worker, but, frankly, his photos are kind of predictable and tiresome. At least I get tired of merely looking at all those sad faces. I'd like to know what sort of pharmaceuticals the guy is using more than his cameras? A normal person would have thrown themselves off the cliff if they saw what he saw.

Leaf through Nachtwey's Inferno for something unpredictable, it's a heavy book (quite literally).
