Seeking advice on Leica starter system

if you wear glasses and want a 35 or 28, the only choice is a .58x leica m6/mp/m7, .6x minolta cle, or .6x hexar rf. don't even bother with .72x.

later on, you can get a bessa r3a, leica m3, or canon p for your 50 and 90.

Don't want to dampen the enthusiasm for offering advice and guidance, but the original poster hasn't posted for over 12 months now! I suspect he's sorted out what he wanted by now! I wonder what he settled for?

one of the nicest things about leicas for newbies such as myself is the knowledge that they depreciate in value at a glacial pace. I started out with a bessa r2 to test the waters for 2 years before I eventually got a leica. Now I have a 3 lens, 1 body + accessories voigtlander kit that I don't luv anymore but it doesn't really pay to sell them.

Just get the m6 and keep it in good condition. If you change your mind in a year sell it off. Even if you take a smallish hit on it you can just consider the lost cash a kind of cheapo leica lease.

The M3s hold their value really well too, they are just getting on in years in my opinion. 🙂

You're right, very slow depreciation... I paid $150 for my used M2 in very nice user condition, and I daresay it's worth more than that today. At the same time, I bought a brand new 35mm Summicron (first version), which some hold in high esteem, at full-retail price of $164.50. It's worth more today too.... though over those 39 years there's been noticeable inflation of the dollar as well. 😀
